Storefront at night

After coming up with the sketches of the characters for Le temps n’attend personne, my next task in the specialization course was to create some locations from the story! This is the street where le petit coin du livre du village is located, between a café, in which Madeline and Giselle are loyal customers for years, and a barber shop. The street is busy with people looking for a place to shop, the streets are very often visited by people from downtown nearby, with taxis giving people a ride form place to place.

I will be focusing on the café at a future piece. This is where Madeline and Giselle share many fond memories, and how they start a lot of their days with a heavy breakfast and a fresh cup of coffee (or milk for younger Madeline). The next door barbershop attracts many guests to the bookstore and the café. The lights coming from various sources illuminates the busy streets, luminance flourishing from the rain, radiance reflecting from the puddles and splashes of rain and water. The outdoor benches, tables, and chairs often face the elements throughout the seasons, though the café and the bookstore might want to bring the chairs, chalk sign, and the post card stand indoors respectively.

While working on this project, I was told at the early stages of the assignment to capture some emotion in the drawing, what helps with that is to explore some season or weather elements to the location! I'm still rather new to procreate and digital drawing, so I tried experimenting with some snow but I couldn't find a good enough brush tool at the time of working at this project, so I experimented with rain instead. That decision made me want to continue the piece in a night time setting to really make the lights of the streetlamps, buildings, and the cars really pop.
